Created in 1992, the Special Recognition Award recognizes a person (or persons) who has had a major impact in areas of clinical oncology, cancer research, clinical trials, reimbursement, and/or patient advocacy activities. The award recognizes outstanding, long-term service to ASCO and/or to clinical oncology.

The award consists of a commemorative plaque and support to the recipient to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting or another event based on individual circumstances. The award recipient must agree to be interviewed by the ASCO Daily News as an important representative of the Annual Meeting program. 

Eligibility

Candidates do not have to be an ASCO member to be eligible for this award.

Selection

Candidates for the award are considered by the ASCO Special Awards Selection Committee. The committee considers all nominations as they have been submitted; recommendations are then forwarded to the Board of Directors for final approval.
