Two Brazilian Practices Achieve QOPI® Certification

June 10, 2019

Americas Oncologia of Rio de Janeiro and Hospital Paulistano of São Paolo have become the fourth and fifth practices, respectively, in Brazil to receive Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification through QOPI® Certification Program, LLC, bringing the total number of international practices to receive this accreditation to 13.

The practices both received their three-year certifications on May 30, after completing the program for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care. The Certification certificates and plaques were present at a June 2 reception at the 2019 ASCO Annual Meeting. Spanish practice Hospital Universitario Central De Asturias, which achieved Certification last month, also was recognized at the reception.

The QOPI Certification Program™, which began in 2010, offers specialty certification to outpatient oncology practices demonstrating commitment to quality. Each practice completes a comprehensive, voluntary assessment of its site against specified standards that are consistent with national guidelines. Those practices that earn QOPI® Certification designation have scored well on key QOPI® quality measures and have met chemotherapy safety standards established by ASCO and the Oncology Nursing Society in areas that include:

  • Treatment planning
  • Staff training and education
  • Chemotherapy orders and drug preparation
  • Patient consent and education
  • Safe chemotherapy administration
  • Monitoring and assessment of patient well-being.

Currently, nearly 300 practices are actively QOPI® Certified. View the names and locations of these practices.
