Free PQRS Reporting Now Available Through QOPI®; No Additional Reporting Required

ASCO’s New Service Is Latest Example of the Society’s Commitment to Helping Members Prepare for MACRA

ASCO is pleased to announce that oncology practices can now complete all of their Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) requirements through the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) platform. All users will be able to use the QOPI system to fulfill the Oncology Measures Group set of seven measures for PQRS reporting, which entails submitting 20 charts for each eligible professional (EP) by their National Provider Identifier (NPI). Each EP must sign a participation agreement and attestation form to allow QOPI to submit on his or her behalf. These agreements also can be signed by the practice’s registered QOPI administrator. QOPI is free to all users, and the new PQRS reporting is free of charge to any practice with a current and registered ASCO member.

QOPI is an oncologist-led, practice-based quality assessment program designed to promote excellence in cancer care by helping practices create a culture of self-examination and improvement. It provides a standard methodology, robust library of quality metrics, and collection tool to reliably and routinely assess care, inform quality improvement activities, and demonstrate quality to patients and external stakeholders.

In 2016, PQRS reporting will affect Medicare Part B reimbursements in 2018. In 2017, PQRS reporting in will be integrated into your first Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, or MIPS, score, affecting your 2019 reimbursement.

Utilizing QOPI to meet these Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requirements is easy. First, a practice not already registered with QOPI will need to do so, which requires at least one member of the practice to be an ASCO member. Once in the QOPI system, you can select the PQRS reporting module—doing the entire QOPI data extraction is not necessary—then extract your PQRS-only data, and ASCO will submit your data to CMS on your behalf at the Tax Identification Number/NPI level.

Throughout this transition, ASCO will be with you every step of the way, and you will be able to see information from your reports on a PQRS dashboard in your QOPI account. This is one of the ways ASCO is putting into practice its commitment to helping its members succeed in practice and be prepared for the Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).

How to Meet PQRS Requirements Through QOPI

  1. Log into the QOPI system; if you are not already a QOPI user, you will need to register first, which requires there to be at least one ASCO member in your practice
  2. Click on “Classic QOPI”
  3. Click on “Fall 2016”
  4. Start at the green “QOPI Round Participation” tile:
  • Select how you will participate (“Practice” or “Site”: see the blue “i” icon for more information)
  • Select “Fall 2016” for the round
  • Select your modules and/or pathways
    - To participate in the QOPI Fall 2016 round and/or maintain your QOPI Certification, your minimum requirement is one disease or domain module plus the core module.
    - If you are only participating for PQRS submission, you are only required to select the PQRS pathway, but you are more than welcome to select additional modules and pathways.
    - If you are participating in this round for QOPI Certification or Recertification, you must select the QCP reporting pathway (although you may choose additional modules and pathways based on your practice's reporting needs).
  • Measures labeled as “test” are optional. Abstracting for these measures allows QOPI to determine how these measures contribute to quality performance and whether these become permanent QOPI measures.

Please note: A new QOPI practice must register on the QOPI platform and have at least one ASCO member; existing registered QOPI practices do not need to re-register.
