Our Strategic Plan
ASCO’s strategic plan outlines the Society’s approach to leading the delivery of information and diverse expertise needed by the global oncology community to reduce the burden of cancer. The plan also defines goals that will mark progress towards this outcome.
ASCO’s diverse network of nearly 45,000 oncology professionals recognizes ASCO's dedication to providing the highest-quality resources in education, policy, the pioneering of clinical research, and above all, advancing the care for patients with cancer. ASCO is unique in that we are the only organization that encompasses all oncology subspecialties, allowing our members to grow from the professional and personal expertise of their colleagues worldwide and across disciplines. International members make up approximately one-third of the Society’s total membership and represent more than 150 countries. ASCO offers a variety of membership categories designed to fit your career stage and specific needs. ASCO offers numerous membership categories and benefits.
ASCO is governed by a Board of 19 members, including a President-Elect, President, Chair of the Board (seat to be filled starting in 2019), Treasurer, Past President, and 14 Directors. The ASCO Chief Executive Officer and the Chair of the Conquer Cancer Foundation Board of Directors have non-voting seats on the ASCO Board.
The Society conducts the majority of its business through various volunteer groups comprised of ASCO members who volunteer their time and effort to Society programs. Leaders of patient advocacy groups are often active in ASCO volunteer groups as well. There are currently 18 standing committees (plus numerous editorial boards, task forces, panels, and working groups) that are managed and supported by ASCO’s full-time staff. ASCO is a charitable, educational, and scientific organization classified under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The ASCO Membership Directory is your go-to tool for finding and interacting with other ASCO members. Designed to keep you in touch with like-minded colleagues, the Membership Directory app enables you to build your professional network, connect with colleagues at meetings and easily provide other ASCO members’ information to patients seeking a referral. Using the app, members can search by name, organization, specialty and/or certification.
With new treatments coming out seemingly daily and limited time for learning, it can be hard to stay on top of the latest in oncology. So when you do have the time, you want the resources you utilize to meet your own learning style. The ASCO Personalized Learning Dashboard helps you to sift through all of the information out there and find content recommendations tailored to your media preferences.
