All applications for the Leadership Development Program (LDP) must be submitted in accordance with the requirements and instructions of this Request for Proposals (RFP). All application materials must be in English and must be submitted online in the Easygrants system. No paper applications or applications sent by e-mail will be accepted.

Applicants are encouraged to start their application early due to the complexity of the online application process. To initiate an application, please visit the Easygrants website.

If applicants have previously used Easygrants to apply for a Conquer Cancer Foundation (CCF) grant, or have participated in a CCF review committee, their login information should be the same. Please email ASCO Professional Development staff if you are locked out of your account.

Important Instructions about Uploads

Applicants will have to upload documents in the "Uploads" portion of the online application. Some documents are uploaded by the mentor or institutional approver. Uploads can be in PDF, MS Word, or MS Excel formats although PDF format is preferred to ensure proper conversion. Uploaded documents should not be password protected or they may not convert properly.

Uploads (the following 5 components are uploaded in the “Uploads” section)

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV): This should be no more than four (4) pages.
  • Letter of Interest: Limit to two (2) single-spaced pages, 10-12 point font. In the letter you must:
    • Provide a couple of examples of your leadership experience. One example should describe a time you felt you were an effective leader. A second example should describe a time you did not do as well as you might wish.​
    • Address how your behaviors and experiences make you a strong candidate for the Leadership Development Program.
    • Address how participation in this program benefit you, your community, your institution, and your career.
  • Letters of Support (2): Two letters of support endorsing your participation in the program.
    • 1) Letter of support from your supervisor/senior member at your institution/practice. This letter should endorse the candidate's participation in the program and comment on the candidate’s ability to participate in teams and his/her potential strengths as a leader.
    • 2) Additional letter of support from an ASCO member endorsing the candidate's participation in the program.

Short-Answer Questions

The completed application must be received before the deadline.

Disclose Financial Relationships

Following the submission of your application, you will be emailed a link to disclose your financial relationships. In compliance with ASCO's Conflict of Interest Policy, all persons who volunteer within ASCO are required to disclose their financial relations. You must complete your disclosure at ASCO's Disclosure Management System.

Selection Process

The Leadership Development Program (LDP) Selection Committee does not review applications based on research experience. Rather, applications are evaluated based on the strengths and weaknesses of the following criteria:

  • Letter of Interest: Essays are evaluated based on whether the candidate gives a convincing argument about his or her desire to acquire stronger leadership skills. The candidate must also effectively describe how they will use these skills.
  • Letters of Support (2): Scores are based on the reference’s evaluation, which describes the applicant’s character and his or her leadership skills and potential.
  • Oncology Leadership Activities: Candidates are evaluated based on their current level of involvement within the oncology community. Reviews are not be based solely on previous roles within ASCO.
  • Civic Activities: Candidates are evaluated based on the depth and breadth of their civic involvement. This is used as an indicator of candidates’ leadership potential.
  • Honors & Recognitions: The LDP selection committee will assess how marks of distinction apply to leadership potential.
