LEADING ONCOLOGISTS ANSWER PATIENT CARE QUESTIONS LIVE ONLINE

ASCO’s Patient Information Website to Launch Ask the “ASCO Expert Series” Featuring Monthly Web Chats and Q & A Forums Addressing Key Patient Issues

Editor’s Note: Medical experts available for scheduled phone interviews.

ASCO’s patient information website, People Living With Cancer (PLWC), will feature a series of hour-long live chats focusing on specific cancer care topics. Board certified oncologists specializing in the selected area of discussion will provide answers to participants’ questions. Those not able to login at the time of the chat are encouraged to submit their questions through the website beforehand. A transcript of each chat will be posted online the
following business day by noon (ET).

As a new addition to the PLWC patient information program, three months in 2005 have been designated to debut the new Question and Answer Forum. Site visitors will now have the opportunity to ask questions concerning a particular patient care topic over the course a month. Answers will be submitted and posted on a weekly basis by a board certified oncologist recognized for their expertise in the selected area of discussion.

There is no cost to participate or to submit questions to the PLWC Live Chat Series or the Question and Answer Forum. An automatic e-mail reply will be sent to PLWC guests submitting questions that will indicate when to visit the website again to see if their question has been answered. Multiple questions of a similar nature will receive one common response.

ASCO’s more than 20,000 members from the United States and abroad set the standard for patient care worldwide and lead the fight for more effective cancer treatments, increased funding for clinical and translational research, and, ultimately, cures for the many different types of cancer that strike an estimated 10 million people worldwide each year.
