ASCO provides a number of tools and resources for members and their staff related to the management of the oncology practice. This section provides information on drug shortages and the Oncology Practice Insider. Links to other ASCO practice-related resources can also be found here.
ASCO is aware of the ongoing impact drug shortages have on patients receiving cancer treatment and on oncology practices. ASCO co-convened a Drug Shortage Summit with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Institute for Safe Medication Practices to discuss the issues leading to drug shortages and identify possible solutions. Information on the Summit and ASCO's alerts related to shortages can be found below.
ASCO in Action contains the most current information on drug shortages.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provides information on drug shortages, how to report shortages and offers an e-mail service for alerts on shortage updates. The FDA created the Drug Safety and Availability website containing this information and a link is provided below. In addition to the FDA, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) provides a Drug Shortage Resource Center, which provides updates on shortages and guides to managing shortages. The ASHP page is also provided below.
Oncology Practice Insider
ASCO’s Oncology Practice Insider (OPI) is a free bimonthly e-newsletter specifically devoted to oncology practice management.
