Multidisciplinary Cancer Management Courses (MCMC) are designed to improve the level of cancer care globally as well as promote multidisciplinary cancer care. This course provides fundamental training for physicians in countries where cancer patients are frequently treated by non-specialists.
MCMC was developed in response to the pressing global need for training in the principles of multidisciplinary cancer management. The course allows ASCO to take a leadership role in providing basic training and advancing the specialty of medical oncology, promoting the use of clinical trials as a means to improve cancer care, and introducing a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care worldwide.
The MCMC curriculum focuses on cancer management in the most common disease sites and systems. MCMC presentations are sponsored and organized by local oncology professional associations and tailored by the local faculty to meet educational needs in the area. Core course elements include: cancer biology, multimodality treatment of patients with cancer; surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathologic assessment of cancer as well as prevention and screening.

New MCMC Program! “Train the Trainer”: The MCMC “Train the Trainer” program is designed to increase the understanding of multidisciplinary cancer care concepts and equip organizers of future ASCO courses and other educational activities with effective teaching methods and practical skills for course implementation.
“Train the Trainer” refers to the training of instructors who then themselves conduct training courses. Participants in the “Train the Trainer” program learn general teaching principles and elements of multidisciplinary treatment, improve their presentation skills, and discuss implementation strategies for organizing an MCMC of their own.
The “Train the Trainer” Pilot:
- TBD: Santiago, Chile – Presented in collaboration with the Chilean Oncology Foundation
