The American Society of Clinical Oncology® (ASCO) with funding from Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has launched the Breast Cancer Pilot Program. Twenty diverse hematology/oncology practices in the United States have been selected to participate in the program, which will run through December 2010.
The Breast Cancer Registry Pilot will utilize a web-enabled application based on the ASCO Breast Cancer Treatment Plan and Summary template.* The goals of the Pilot Program are to:
1. To evaluate practices’ perceived burden, value, usefulness, and effectiveness of patient discussions regarding treatment and survivorship using the treatment plan and summary reports generated by a web-enabled application based on the ASCO treatment plan and summary templates.
2. To evaluate patients’ perspectives regarding treatment and survivorship discussions integrating the treatment plan and summary reports generated by the registry.
3. To generate an anonymized breast cancer registry database to inform future quality of care and research initiatives.
After successful completion of the Registry Pilot Program, the Breast Cancer Registry the registry may be opened for national participation and/or expanded to other types of cancer.
