Take Action: Prevent More Cuts to Cancer Care

Posted June 14, 2013

Working to prevent any further cuts to cancer care, Reps. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) and Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) are circulating a “Dear Colleague” that will be sent to Speaker Boehner (R-Ohio) and Minority Leader Pelosi (D-Calif.).

The previous reduction to the ASP because of sequestration has already led to significant consequences, forcing physicians to shift patients to hospitals to receive their chemotherapy and threatening the viability of many practices.

According to a recent ASCO survey, 80 percent of survey respondents said that the sequestration cuts have affected their practices. Nearly 50 percent reported not being able to continue caring for Medicare patients unless they have supplemental insurance and 50 percent of respondents reported sending their Medicare patients elsewhere for chemotherapy, primarily to more expensive hospital outpatient infusion centers.

You can help take immediate action by contacting your member of Congress and urging him or her to sign-on to the letter. ASCO’s ACT Network provides one-click access to send an email to your elected official. Take action today.
