Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons Updates Hospital Accreditation Standards

Posted September 2, 2011

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has released its new, updated accreditation standards for hospital cancer programs.

The new standards are patient-centered and intended to ensure that quality care is provided to every person with cancer treated in a CoC-accredited facility, as well as psychosocial support, care for cancer-related pain, palliative care, and hospice care.

ASCO is represented on the Executive Committee of the CoC, a consortium of 47 professional organizations that establish cancer care standards and monitor quality at hospitals that it accredits. More than 1,500 hospitals in the United States and Puerto Rico are CoC-accredited.
