Deadline for Free PQRS Reporting Through QOPI® Extended to January 31

Complete Your Reporting Now to Avoid a Two Percent Medicare Reimbursement Cut in 2018
December 15, 2016

On December 13, ASCO announced that is extending the deadline for completing Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) requirements through the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) from December 31 to January 31, 2017. By completing the user-friendly, free PQRS module by 5 PM (ET) January 31, 2017, practices can avoid a 2% reduction in Medicare reimbursement beginning in 2018. QOPI is free to all users, and the PQRS reporting is free to any practice with a current ASCO member.

QOPI offers PQRS reporting fulfillment through the Oncology Measures Group  of seven measures which requires practices to submit 20 charts (11 of which must be Medicare Part B FFS) for each eligible professional (EP) identified by his or her National Provider Identifier (NPI). Before entering data, each EP must sign a participation agreement and attestation form to allow QOPI to submit on his or her behalf.

Practices that do not report PQRS quality measures in 2016 will receive a 2% decrease on Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) services for 2018 and additional penalties, up to a loss of an additional 4% depending on practice size, from the Value-Based Modifier (VBM). The VBM is the differential payment to practices under the MPFS based upon the quality of care provided compared to the cost of care during a performance period.[1]

QOPI is an oncologist-led, practice-based quality assessment program designed to promote excellence in cancer care by helping practices create a culture of self-examination and improvement. It provides a standard methodology, robust library of quality metrics, and collection tool to reliably and routinely assess care, inform quality improvement activities, and demonstrate quality to patients and external stakeholders.

Instructions for Meeting PQRS Requirements Through QOPI

  • If your practice registered to participate in the PQRS pathway along with Spring 2016 or Fall 2016 QOPI round participation: You will continue to access your PQRS tile by navigating to “Classic QOPI” on the left side menu and selecting “QOPI Round.” Then select the tile of the round in which you registered for PQRS (Spring 2016 or Fall 2016). Please note that charts you may have entered into PQRS as part of a QOPI round will be locked. If there is an error within a PQRS chart entered during a QOPI round, you may have to delete the chart and reenter the information. Contact the QOPI Help Desk with any questions.
  • If your practice is not yet registered within the QOPI system: Please register at https://myqopi.asco.org/registration/login.aspx#. Click “New Registration” at the bottom right of the screen, then enter the required information. Once your registration has been processed and approved by QOPI staff, we will contact you about gaining access to PQRS abstraction. This process takes anywhere from 48-72 hours.

For more information, contact the QOPI Help Desk.
