Created in 1992, the Special Recognition Award recognizes a person or persons who have major effect in areas of clinical oncology, cancer research, clinical trials, reimbursement, and patient advocacy activities. The award recognizes outstanding, long-term service to ASCO and/or to clinical oncology.
The award consists of a commemorative plaque and support to the recipient to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting or another event based on individual circumstances. The award recipient must agree to be interviewed by the ASCO Daily News as an important representative of the Annual Meeting program.
Candidates do not have to be an ASCO member to be eligible for this award.
Nominations for the 2014 Special Recognition Award are now closed.
Candidates for the award will be considered by the ASCO Special Awards Selection Committee. The committee will consider all nominations as they have been submitted. After careful deliberations by the committee, its recommendations will be forwarded to the Board of Directors for final approval.
