In 1964, the founders formed a diverse group of physicians who shared an interest in the fledgling field of cancer chemotherapy with greater patient-related orientation. On April 9, 1964, the first organization meeting of ASCO's seven-member founding group assembled for lunch in a small meeting room in the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago.
