Carolyn D. Runowicz, MD, FASCO, is Executive Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University. In addition to serving on the ASCO Board of Directors, Dr. Runowicz serves on the Audit Committee.
An ASCO member since 1987, Dr. Runowicz has served as Chair of the Cancer Research Committee and on the ASCO Board of Directors, Cancer Education Committee, Public Issues Committee, Health Services Committee, and the Conquer Cancer Foundation Grants Selection Committee, among others.
Dr. Runowicz has served as President of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and President of the American Cancer Society. She has served as Chair of the National Cancer Institute’s National Cancer Advisory Board. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society Foundation. She serves on the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Scientific Advisory Committee and is a member of numerous professional organizations and served on the editorial Board of the Annals of Surgical Oncology, among other leadership positions.
Dr. Runowicz received her undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut and her medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. She completed a Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Medical Center, where she also completed her residency. She also completed a Galloway Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Runowicz was Director of the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center and Northeast Utilities Chair in Experimental Oncology at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
