Coinciding with "Health Week" on Capitol Hill, ASCO held its 2005 Legislative Conference in Washington DC, last week. The Legislative Conference brought together ASCO members from across the country with the leading policy makers who work on Medicare, quality cancer, and drug safety initiatives.

A key way we can accomplish this is to urge CMS to extend the oncology demonstration project, which provides reimbursement to practices for reporting quality care information on their patients’ conditions.

May 9: Rep. Hall Circulates Letter to House Urging Members to Support Quality Cancer Care

This week Representative Ralph Hall (R-TX) circulated a "Dear Colleague" letter to his fellow House Representatives, urging them to co-sponsor House Resolution 261 to ensure quality cancer care. The "Dear Colleague" letter specifically references involvement by ASCO, patient advocates, and others in the cancer community in CMS’s demonstration project that provides resources to assess the side effects of chemotherapy on cancer patients.
