December 28: Status of 2006 Oncology Demonstration Project Guidance
ASCO expects the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to issue additional guidance on the 2006 Oncology Demonstration Project within the next day.We recognize that practices are laboring to understand the specific requirements of the demonstration only a few days before it will be implemented, and have expressed our concern to CMS about the significant delay in providing program details.
ASCO continues to develop resources to help bring practices up to speed on the demonstration and plans to disseminate additional information as soon as the CMS program guidance is finalized.These resources will include:
Disease-specific templates that physicians can download and use to fulfill documentation requirements under the demonstration;
FAQs on the demonstration project; and
An audioconference on January 9 which will include an overview of the demonstration and other Medicare changes affecting oncology (e-mail ascoaudioconference@asco.org or visit www.asco.org/2006_audiocall for more information);
Until additional guidance becomes available, ASCO also encourages practices to review the demonstration instructions that were issued to carriers earlier this month.
