ASCO’s Interim Executive Vice President and CEO, Joseph S. Bailes, MD, testified at a hearing held by the  House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health, on issues related to Medicare payment for Part B drugs and services. The subcommittee’s hearing focused on the implementation of the average sales price (ASP) payments for cancer drug reimbursement and sought input on the effects of this new payment system on cancer care.

November 1: 2006 Fee Schedule and Possible Cuts to Oncology Demonstration Project

As many of you know, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) plans to release its 2006 fee schedule in the next day or so. While CMS has not yet released any details on the fee schedule, preliminary press reports indicate that the oncology demonstration project will be extended in 2006. Of concern is a report that CMS may be earmarking less money for the 2006 demonstration than the $300 million it budgeted in 2005.
