- September 6 Presscast to Highlight Key Research Advances in Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Treatment-


ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Four noteworthy studies from the 2011 Breast Cancer Symposium will be featured in an embargoed presscast for reporters on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, from 12:00-1:30 PM (EDT). Highlighted studies will focus on improvements in the diagnosis, treatment and survival of breast cancer.

During the Presscast, researchers will present the following four studies:
  • Results of a study that evaluated survival with breast-conservation therapy or mastectomy in the management of young women with early-stage breast cancer
  • Information on nomograms for predicting the risk of arm lymphedema after axillary dissection in breast cancer
  • Data on recurrence rates and long-term survival in women diagnosed with breast cancer at age 40 and younger
  • Findings of a study analyzing data on breast cancer stage, age at detection, method of detection and types of treatment in a large group of women in Michigan

This year’s Symposium will take place September 8-10, 2011, at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San Francisco and will feature nearly 300 abstracts on the latest research in breast cancer. On-site facilities for reporters will include a working newsroom and access to leading breast cancer experts.

Six leading medical specialty societies co-sponsor the three-day, multidisciplinary symposium, including the American Society of Breast Disease, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, the National Consortium of Breast Centers and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
