Clinical Tools and Resources



The purpose of these derivative products is to more widely disseminate, in a practical and user-friendly form, the recommendations contained in the guidelines.

Journal of Oncology Practice (JOP) Guideline Articles: A table or very brief summary. The primary target audience for this summary is the busy clinician looking for a synopsis of the guideline recommendations, for example, in the setting of an active clinic. Although patients may also access this summary, it is written at the health professional level.

Summary Slide Set: Slides displaying Guideline recommendations and brief background. These slides are designed to be used during Tumor Boards, Grand Rounds, and similar lectures.

Clinical Tools and Tables: If appropriate, tools like flow sheets and tables are created. They could be used by clinical practices in their daily activities and affixed to patients’ charts. The intent is to create a practical product that will facilitate guideline adherence in day-to-day situations for the practicing clinician.

Decision Aids/Discussion Guides: These expert-produced tools facilitate shared decision-making by enabling clinicians to display graphical, text, and spoken presentations of data from ASCO Guidelines to patients and caregivers. The Decision Aids discuss benefits and risks of interventions from the Guidelines and include opportunities for patients to weigh their options. 

Patient Guide: Cancer.net creates these “What to Know” patient-friendly guides based on ASCO's Clinical Practice Guidelines for clinicians. To help clinicians give their patients the best possible care, patient guides are based on recommendations made by its medical experts
