A Mobile Meeting or Podcast is a series of digital media files that is made available online for download to an audio or video player. The iMeeting app is also available with this subscription (iPad only). The player can be a computer or portable device (that gets the audio/video content transferred from a computer) like an Apple iPod®, iTouch®, or iPad®
What is a Mobile Meeting (Podcast) subscription? [Back to top]
Mobile Meeting subscriptions are simply programs that display the contents of a podcast in an easy to read format, allowing individuals to download an audio or video file and listen and/or view it on their computer, mp3 player, iPod, or iPad. ASCO provides instructions for only the iTune podcast program. If you use other podcast software, please refer to its documentation on how to set up a podcast subscription.
How do I retrieve my ASCO Mobile Meeting (Podcast)? [Back to top]
1. Download iTunes for Windows or Mac onto your computer. Follow the installation instructions from Apple (http://www.apple.com/itunes/) .
2. Next, go to the ASCO.org website and log on with your username and password. Then select, Visit Personalized Page
3. In the Customer Service Area, choose the My Products Tab
4. Select the appropriate Podcast product – please note with your purchase you receive access to the prior year’s presentations
5. Click the desired year and you will see a listing of the tracks

Every ASCO audio program has an unique Podcast subscription URL. Select the URL of the Audio or Video Podcast by highlighting it with the cursor on the ASCO webpage, and then copy the URL in your computer’s clipboard by pressing Ctrl-C (Apple – C on a Mac) |

Open iTunes, go to the Advanced menu, and select Subscribe to Podcast...: |

The "Subscribe to Podcast" window opens (A). Right-click on the window, and select Paste from the resulting pop-up menu (A). After the URL appears in the window, click the OK button (B): |

9. iTunes will start downloading the ASCO Podcast information, and will display the Podcast name highlighted in the main window:

Click on the right arrow preceding the Podcast name (A), to expand the Podcast folder to show all individual audio episodes that are part of the ASCO Podcast (B): |

By default iTunes will only download the first (most recent) audio presentation onto your computer. To listen to other audio episodes available for download in the Podcast, click the GET button of each audio presentation of interest: |

To start listening to an audio presentation, double click its name in iTunes. A speaker icon will appear to the left of the audio episode that is currently playing. Note that download must be completed. |

13. For portable playback, transfer the ASCO Podcast to an iPod by connecting the iPod to your computer. See the

Now that you have subscribed to the ASCO Podcast, every time you start iTunes when you are connected to the internet, iTunes will automatically check if new audio presentations have been added to the ASCO Podcast. If new content is available, iTunes will again download the newest audio episodes, and update the complete contents list of the ASCO Podcast.
Navigating ASCO Podcasts in iTunes [Back to top]
To see the contents of an ASCO Podcast in iTunes, start the iTunes program and select the Podcast view by clicking on the
Podcasts button at the top of the left column in iTunes.
Click on the solid right arrow preceding the ASCO Podcast listing in the middle iTunes column to expand the collapsed folder, and show all individual audio presentations within that podcast program. (The solid arrow will point down if the folder has already been expanded.)
The Name and Artist descriptions of ASCO audio presentations contain prefixes to indicate what information is displayed following the prefix. This facilitates navigation of grouped ASCO content when viewed on the Apple iPod player.
The following prefixes are used:
- TI+AU: Title + Author (ASCO Meeting presentation)
- AU+SES: Author + Session (ASCO Meeting presentation)
- AJO: ASCO Audio Journal of Oncology (issue content)
- AJO InAdvance: ASCO Audio Journal of Oncology In Advance (preview content)
Any audio presentation that has already been downloaded onto your computer for playback does
not show the
GET button to the right of the Podcast title. To get additional information on that downloaded audio presentation, right-click on the presentation title and select
Get Info from the resulting pop-up menu. Click on the
GET button to download that presentation onto your computer, after which it can be right-clicked to get detailed information about the presentation.
Navigating ASCO Podcasts on the iPod [Back to top]
The Name and Artist descriptions of ASCO audio presentations contain prefixes to indicate what information is displayed following the prefix. This facilitates navigation of grouped ASCO content when viewed on the Apple iPod player.
The following prefixes are used:
- TI+AU: Title + Author (ASCO Meeting presentation)
- AU+SES: Author + Session (ASCO Meeting presentation)
- AJO: ASCO Audio Journal of Oncology (issue content)
- AJO InAdvance: ASCO Audio Journal of Oncology In Advance (preview content)
The iPod navigation menu offers several ways to get to the audio presentations:
- Music > Artists > AU+SES:[…]
- Genre > Podcast > AU+SES:[…]
When highlighting the AU+SES prefixed selection using the click wheel, the description will start to scroll displaying the Author Name followed by the Session of which the presentation was part.
- Music > Albums > [ASCO Podcast presentation Title] > TI+AU:[…]
- Music > Songs > TI+AU:[…]
- Music > Podcasts > [ASCO Podcast presentation Title] > TI+AU:[…]
When highlighting the TI+AU prefixed selection using the click wheel, the description will start to scroll displaying the Presentation Title followed by Author Name.
Creating a custom selection of audio presentations [Back to top]
This can be achieved by creating a custom "Playlist" in iTunes:
1. Go to the
File menu and choose
Create Playlist.
2. A new, highlighted Playlist link will appear at the bottom in the left column, named "
untitled playlist". Rename this to a Playlist name to your liking.
3. Click on the
Podcasts link on top of the left column
4. Click-and-drag the Podcast audio presentations of your choice from the central column onto your renamed Playlist link in the left column.
5. When you connect your iPod to your computer, by default iTunes will copy over your new Playlist to your iPod.
