2009 EORTC-NCI-ASCO Travel Grants Opportunities for Early Career Oncologists / Scientists
The EORTC is seeking applications for a grant to attend the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) – National Cancer Institute (NCI) – American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Diagnostic Development Tutorial “From Hypothesis to Product.” This Tutorial is being held in Brussels, Belgium, 14-15 October 2009 in conjunction with the EORTC – NCI – ASCO Annual Meeting on “Molecular Markers in Cancer”.
The following learning objectives have been established, so that at the conclusion of the Tutorial the participant will:
- Understand how to develop hypotheses and select relevant endpoints to evaluate markers for different clinical uses
- Understand the need for standardization of assay procedures early in the development process and for characterization of both the analytic and clinical performance of the assay
- Understand the differences in statistical methods required for development of single analyte vs. multiplex tests
- Be able to develop an appropriate clinical study design for at least one type of marker
- Understand the regulatory options and requirements (US and European) to bring new cancer biomarkers to market
The grant will include:
- Free registration for the Tutorial
- Free registration for the main meeting
- Up to 750 euros for travel expenses (on economy fair basis)
- Reimbursement of maximum 4 nights accommodation at the Crowne Plaza Brussels City Centre “Le Palace” or any other hotel (maximum 165 euros per night), by using the booking form which will be provided on the ENASCO website. The EORTC will reimburse hotel expenses on a single room, bed & breakfast basis upon receipt of original hotel bill. Any personal expenses (mini-bar, telephone, multimedia services, etc.) will not be reimbursed.
Those applying to be one of the 5 United States or Canada early career oncologists / scientists should submit:
- Their CV
- Statement of Interest (that you will mention within your application form).
- A letter from the division director endorsing their current research plan and attendance at the meeting (1 page maximum).
