ASCO CME Mission Statement

The American Society of Clinical Oncology®, through the execution and continual enhancement of an educational program that is comprehensive in both content and format, seeks to facilitate the acquisition and maintenance of attitudes, knowledge, and skills of clinical- and translational-focused oncology professionals that will positively impact the care of patients with cancer, patients at high risk of cancer, and cancer survivors.

ASCO® will successfully meet the purpose of this mission by utilizing the following strategies:

  • Educational content will focus on the professional scope of the oncology practitioner and/or researcher, as continually identified through analysis of professional knowledge and practice gaps and other educational needs;
  • Educational activities will be designed for clinical- and translational-focused oncology professionals, with a primary focus on physicians (including oncologists-in-training), who are involved in research and/or practice related to cancer biology, prevention, diagnosis, staging, treatment and psychosocial impact;
  • Educational activities will address a wide range of learning styles through their formats, including, but not limited to, live meetings and workshops, educational products utilizing various media and interactive techniques, and other innovative self-assessment exercises;
  • Expected results from an educational activity will focus on realizing an increase in learners’ competence or performance related to the stated goals and identified educational needs or professional practice gaps; expected results of the overall educational portfolio will also focus on measuring increases in learners’ competence and/or performance, with a continual reassessment of professional practice gaps and educational needs in the field of oncology to be addressed.
