NCI Cancer Expert Corps

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has launched the Cancer Expert Corps (CEC), a global initiative to bring protocol based treatment (and ultimately the possibility for participation in clinical trials), education and mentoring to health disparities populations in the US and worldwide. Experts from a broad range of oncology disciplines and healthcare delivery services are needed to provide mentoring for partner sites based on long-term, person-to-person connectivity and well constructed plans and milestones. Formal multi-year commitment (approximately 20% FTE) is required which may be supported by contracts and grants or by in-kind contribution (fundraising is ongoing).

The three components of the CEC are:

1) Associates: Medical facilities/locations serving disparities populations who are interested in participating and investing in improving the quality of care and life for their affected citizens,

2) Experts: Panels and centers from a broad range of oncology disciplines and healthcare delivery services that provide the mentoring for the Associates based on long-term, person-to-person connectivity and well constructed plans and milestones; and

3) Hubs: The essential infrastructure, located worldwide to coordinate the Associate-Expert linkage.
