ASCO Research Issues

ASCO is engaged in a number of initiatives and activities related to issues of importance to the conduct of cancer research. These issues include: (1) central review of clinical trials, (2) clinical trial endpoints, (3) embryonic stem cell research, (4) federal research funding, (5) patient-reported outcomes, and (6) quality clinical trial site project.

Central Review of Clinical Trials:  ASCO supports centralized review of multi-center clinical trials to improve the consistency and efficiency of clinical trial review.
FDA Project on Cancer Drug Approval Endpoints:  ASCO organizes, along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Cancer Institute (NCI), and other professional societies, workshops to evaluate potential endpoints for cancer drug approval.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research Potential for Impacting Cancer:  ASCO supports increased opportunities for federally funded embryonic stem cell research.
Federal Research Funding:  This link provides information on the status of federal funding for the National Institutes of Health and National Cancer Institute.
Patient Reported Outcomes:  ASCO comments to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding its draft guidance entitled "Patient-Reported Outcome Measures: Use in Medical Product Development to Support Labeling Claims."
Quality Clinical Trial Site Project:  ASCO is in the process of creating a definition of a quality clinical trial site to provide a standard that sites can refer to when assessing their resources to conduct clinical trials.
