Submit An Abstract for the 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium

Abstracts for the 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium are now being accepted through an online abstract submitter program. Clinical cancer and translational researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts for presentation at this educational event, to be held in Washington, DC, on September 5-7. The deadline for abstract submission is May 16, 2008, at 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time).

Authors are urged to follow the abstract format established by the Scientific Program Committee, which calls for organization according to four sections: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusions, each to be identified by emboldened text. This format enables committee members to review the abstracts and find pertinent information easily.

The theme of the symposium, “Integrating Emerging Science into Clinical Practice,” emphasizes the growing focus on translational research in oncology. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts in the following areas:
  • Detection/Diagnosis — axillary/sentinel nodes issues; biopsy techniques; detection of metastases; new approaches in diagnostic pathology; new imaging modalities in screening; predictive and prognostic factors
  • Biology of Risk and Prevention — hormones and hormone receptor biology; diet and nutrition; familial breast cancer/genetic testing; prevention
  • Epidemiology and Biology — epidemiology; ethnic/racial aspects; molecular biology; genetics; novel targets; health services research
  • Treatment — novel surgical approaches; radiation and radiobiology; new systemic agents (endocrine, cytotoxics, HER2 , or new drugs/targets); preoperative study methods; response assessment; palliative/support therapy
The 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium will provide a forum for clinically relevant, in-depth discussions of current science that will shape treatment for patients with breast cancer, both now and in the future. The event will feature the presentation of original research and related educational content, as well as significant abstracts previously presented at other meetings. The program structure will create an atmosphere of discussion and debate by focusing on selected themes and inviting the multidisciplinary audience to examine these in a more intimate setting than is usually possible at larger conferences.

The 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium is co-sponsored by the American Society of Breast Disease, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, ASCO, the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, the National Consortium of Breast Centers, and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
