Preventing cancer is as important as, if not more important, than treating cancer. Scientists have estimated that anywhere from 50 to 70% of all cancer deaths in the United States are caused by modifiable human behaviors.1 It is vital that physicians understand and implement effective preventive care.

Available in a printed book with an accompanying CD-ROM, Cancer Prevention includes a variety of features:
•
Hundreds of pages divided into 27 sections that cover numerous topics: the basics of prevention, the role of diet, principles of screening, and organ-specific cancer control.
•
Dozens of self assessment questions with accompanying rationales, helping to identify potential knowledge gaps.
•
A fully interactive CD-ROM that contains the slides and the self assessment questions in a digital format.

1. Cancer Trends Progress Report - 2007 Update. Bethesda, MD; National Cancer Institute: 2007.
For many patients with cancer throughout the world, pain relief from difficult or advanced cancers can be hard to find. And with the shortage of physicians and oncologists qualified in pain relief, the need for palliative and end-of-life care has never been greater.¹
To address this concern, ASCO partnered with the National Cancer Institute, the EPEC™ Project at Northwestern University, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to develop and disseminate the EPEC™-Oncology Curriculum. The resource, divided into three plenary sessions and fifteen content modules, elaborates upon the knowledge and skills necessary to provide state of the art palliative interventions for patients with the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual suffering associated with cancer. The curriculum has already been translated into Spanish, and additional translations are planned.
The EPEC™-Oncology Curriculum is freely available as a DVD/CD-ROM package from the National Cancer Institute.
